“Doing well” in business can be defined by many metrics. From touting employee growth and activity to counting on bustling income, succeeding in the development of a business can be marked by various milestones. While profitability is certainly integral, it isn’t the most comprehensive marker for success. The road to success should also be marked by a successful strategy, relationship building, and an ongoing focus on customer service.

For Michigan-based entrepreneur and insurance consultant Peter Vitale, real success comes as a result of being able to stay organized and plan ahead. This includes everything from keeping track of ideas t0 effectively communicating with others. In fact, whatever industry is in question, being able to stick with your goals while still keeping the focus on whatever task at hand is essential.

Who Is Peter Vitale?

Peter Vitale, owner of Bloomfield Insurance Group in Michigan, has worked in the insurance field for nearly a decade. He began as an Executive Account Manager for Allstate Insurance from 2012 to 2014. In 2014, he opened his own Allstate Insurance agency. Within two years, it was declared the fastest-growing branch in the country for the year, earning Vitale the company’s Inner Circle Elite award.

In 2016, Peter Vitale decided to head out on his own and offer consulting services to those in the insurance industry eager to improve their organization and operations. However, other small businesses and entrepreneurs in Michigan and beyond can certainly benefit from his knowledge and hone their own abilities. Some organizational skills are universal, and thus, Vitale’s business acumen and leadership skills can transfer seamlessly throughout various industries.

Defining Successes And Strategies

“M y job is to garner success on behalf of my clients. It takes a multi-faceted approach to maximize success on all fronts, from marketing to staffing,” Vitale said. “Developing a strategic growth plan for an insurance company requires me to look at all of the facets of the company currently in play, and figure out how to streamline operations, increase profit, generate loyal consumer bases, and set up the infrastructure needed for the company to function successfully. “

For many business owners and entrepreneurs, every day can be wildly different. For Peter Vitale, most days focus on trying to help solve client problems, encourage client growth and success, and working toward long-term goals.

Constant Planning Is Key

As a consultant, Vitale’s daily efforts can include advice on recruiting the right talent, as well as constantly offering training and growth opportunities. Beyond daily tasks, Michigan’s Peter Vitale touts that it’s critical to always focus on future planning, developing strategies, and keeping an eye on marketing plans. It’s easy for some or all of these longer-term efforts to be put to the wayside due to daily crises. However, after the proverbial fires have been put out, long-term planning should remain a central focus for any entrepreneur or business leader.

“With so many balls up in the air, it is imperative that I am able to remain flexible, open, and ready to tackle tasks as they come my way,” he said. “I’ve learned that these innate characteristics are very helpful when running a business.”

Approach Is Everything

Vitale typically approaches a task or goal by setting an outline, a process that may take a few days to visualize the goal, the paths to get there, and any possible roadblocks. By anticipating everything that can go right or wrong along the way and incorporating these factors into the plan, it reduces tension and stress when problems inevitably arise. Taking a few days to put a complete goal on paper can also reduce the influence of any emotion or impulses that are easy to put in a first draft that might be heavy on enthusiasm but light on details.

While bursts of inspiration and creativity are wonderful and are to be encouraged, Michigan-based Peter Vitale has found an effective way to keep them from interrupting tasks and otherwise distracting busy leaders. “To remain engaged at the moment without losing the idea, I make sure to take quick notes,” he said. “Whether they are handwritten and later scanned, or taken via smartphone, I take 10 seconds to jot down my thoughts and revisit them when I have additional time to dedicate to them.” This helps keep the focus on current tasks as well as reference points for future good ideas that may not come up until later in the future.

Reflecting On Professional Goals

Another effective behavior Peter Vitale engages in and encourages other clients to follow is to pause regularly and think in a quiet space. This doesn’t have to be something structured, like an active meditation. It can simply be a regular opportunity to turn off the phone, the music, the email, the Internet, and other distractions and close the door. He recommends spending an hour a day per day focusing on professional goals.

Staying Organized, The Peter Vitale Way

Finally, Michigan-based entrepreneur Peter Vitale relies on organizational software. He prefers Asana, a Web-based application that syncs between his phone, computers, and other devices and can be utilized anywhere. Finance technology continues to assist leaders in their organizational tasks, and can sometimes be the difference between staying on top of a goal, and dropping the proverbial ball on an important task with a strict deadline.

With extensive leadership experience under his belt, Peter Vitale continues to actively impact small businesses throughout the Michigan area as a consultant. Through the successful development of his own business, Vitale has mastered the tactics needed to successfully assist others to redefine what success in business truly means. For Vitale, success is marked by long-lasting client relationships.
